Surfing in west cornwall is booming! Rightfully known as the surfing mecca of the UK, the west is littered with good beach breaks with the odd good reef set up. One of the best things about surfing in Cornwall is that we have the peninsula (Lands End) within easy driving distance. You can surf the north coast, get out, and go surf the south coast. Summer time you'll need a full summer wetsuit (3/2mm) and winter you'll need a full steamer winter suit (5/3mm).
Head to sennen cove for waves throughout summer, one of the most consistent beach breaks in the UK! Other good quality consistent beaches in Penwith are Porthmeor, Fistral, Porthtowan, Godrevy and Praa Sands. All good fun waves for all levels of surfer and bodyboarder.
Surfing is one of the fastest growing sports in the world at the moment! Cornwall is catching on fast, the surf scene is getting bigger and bigger and beaches are getting busier and busier. Good advice for the beginner would be to have a few surfing lessons to get you started. Not only to learn the skill, but to learn a little about surfing etiquette and respecting the rules so everyone has a great time and enjoys the beautiful ocean we are blessed with here in Cornwall.
